Northants Shires and Spires Ultramarathon

Aug 24 2016

Northants Shires and Spires

On the 5th June 2016 I took part in the Northampton Shires and Spires ultra marathon, a 35 mile race around the lovely Northamptonshire countryside.

Northants Shires and Spires

The event was organised by Go Beyond who organise a range of marathons and ultra marathons around the country. This is the first ultra marathon I have joggled for a few years and it was really hard work on the arms and shoulders (juggling for over 7 hours). The course weaved it's way in a big loop through the Northants countryside passing by several stately homes and estates, including Althorp and Cottesbrooke. Apart from a getting a bit lost going through the Northampton golf course it was fairly easy to navigate and there were plenty of fellow runners to follow.

I enjoy the atmosphere and comradeship of ultra marathons and encourage everyone to give them a go - you get to chat to some wonderful people, enjoy the countryside and eat and drink lots along the way.

Many thanks to all the marshals and organisers for this event for all the encouragement along the way and the lovely (pink!) technical race shirt and seriously heavy medal at the finish.

Click on the Videos page to see a video of the event - I'm finishing at about 6:35.
